How the Wayward Women got it's name

Updated: Jun 27, 2022

What's in a name?

Wayward Women: By definition, a Wayward Women is someone who behaves bad, in an unpredictable way, and is difficult to control, dresses up, wears make-up. Dictionary.com says it is a woman who is headstrong, un-submissive, stubborn, and unruly.

When I first left my husband, one of the sweetest, loveliest friends I have took me in. She had only known me for 4 months. She opened up her home to me no questions asked. She sat and listened to me wrestle with my heart and soul, cry and justify trying to go back. She reasoned with my confused, painful life.

She knew because she too had left an emotionally abusive, spiritually abusive husband of 31 years. Despite our 20 year age difference, the fact that we only knew each other for 4 months prior to me moving into her spare room and the fact that our backgrounds and lifestyles were VASTLY different, we still bonded because our emotionally abusive relationships were (like many) so similar, we could relate to each others stories.

My friends ex-husband had treated her terribly through the years and when she left, he turned their children against her using God has the reason for everyone needing to punish her.

She would tell me he told the kids and her she had turned from God by standing up for herself, she had become a Wayward Women.

She said this word so many times I finally said "What on earth is a wayward women?" She said, well, it's his way of saying I've become un-submissive and disobedient. He can't control me anymore".

That's when I decided I WANTED TO BE A GODDAMN WAYWARD WOMEN.

And so...
